Updated Marine Cylinder Leaflet
Thanks to Nurmi’s continuous product development in marine cylinder piston rod specifications, we have now updated our Marine cylinder leaflet. The key changes in the leaflet apply to recommended piston rod specifications.

Today, companies are actively searching for environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternatives to hard chrome and nickel chrome as piston rod coatings. These specifications have a wide range of benefits, though corrosion resistance characteristics in rod exposed-positions tend to be insufficient for the marine environment – especially if the rod base material is carbon steel.

Nurmi offers effective alternatives to Cr or NiCr coatings. Even though these solutions are usually more expensive than traditional coatings, they can be applied also directly to carbon steel (non stainless). The net benefit is that the total cost especially in large rods can be lower than in stainless steel rod + Cr coatings.

3D-models now available for NTS6-series
Nurmi Hydraulics has opened a new service for it’s customers. By filling a sheet on our website, you can receive a 3D-model for NTS6 series of types B/K, 2B and 1B. The 3D-model and also the 2D-main measurement drawing will be sent by E-mail. The model will be purpose built for your application, including options for stroke length, outlet directions, cushioning, bellows, etc.

As for the 3D-model you can choose for 23 different  file types such as SolidWorks, Pro, Catia, Step etc. The included 2D-main measurement drawing will be as pdf-file (you can also request only the 2D main measurement drawing in case If you do not need to have a 3D model).

The delivery time for the models is usually appr. one working day for models B/K, 2B and 1B. If you need other types, they can be also available, but with slightly longer delivery time.

You can also ask for a quotation for the cylinders same time, when filling the sheet.

The 3D-model sheet can be found on page NTS6.

New Linear Sensor for Jumbo-cylinders

Nurmi Hydraulics Oy has delivered first cylinders which are equipped with Micro Wave linear sensors. These cylinders are dia 360/160 cylinders with stroke over 4 meters.

Traditional Linear sensors require a drilling through piston rod in whole stroke length. In case stroke is very long or strength does not allow drillings, then traditional linear sensors cannot be used. Usually then other solutions, such as external wire sensors are installed instead. Their accuracy however is not so good and they also get damaged easily. Micro Wave Linear Sensor however is "inbuilt" in cylinder just like traditional sensors. This construction protects sensor fully against dust, moisture or hits. Only cable is visible outside the cylinder and output signal can be modified to be similar as in traditional linear sensors. Micro Wave sensor does not require any rod drilling. Standard piston rods can be used and there is no stroke length limitations.

Micro Wave sensor working principle is to send a Micro Wave signal inside the cylinder and measure the location of the piston from the echoes.

Sensor cylinders were tested at Nurmi in different pressures, oil temperatures and speeds. The results were good. Now Cylinders will be delivered to their final destination in Offshore environment for final testings.
